There are very few teams that have attained the level of chemistry and cohesiveness as this 2014-2015 Thornton Academy Girls Basketball team. It's very easy to believe you have chemistry when you're winning and everything is going well. It's in times of struggle or loss that the true character of a team shines through and time after time we have witnessed amazing acts of kindness and love shown by each of these girls to their teammates and coaches. We didn't lose on Saturday afternoon, the clock simply ran out of time. We are so proud of our girls' efforts all season long, as well as their unflinching commitment to the team. As with any team, there are some that had to work harder at staying positive throughout the year and it is those particular players who are the true strength of this group.
There was so much good that came out of this season and this team will some day look back upon those moments and smile. This experience has changed us all for the better and we've learned many lessons along the way. Together we watched our football team capture the state championship during our first week of the preseason. We helped bring awareness for Aplastic Anemia, raising $10,000 for our Hoops For Hayley campaign, inspiring so many in the process, and we became the first girls team in the history of Thornton Academy to cut down the nets as the Western Maine champs. These moments and so many more have created a bond that will last forever.
To everyone that has followed and supported this team, we'd like to say 'THANK YOU!' The community support of these girls has been nothing short of astonishing and the impact they've had on our community cannot be fully appreciated at this time. Teams like this are very rare and it's been such an honor to be part of it. This is yet another building block in our program's history and one that will make a significant impact for years to come.
