Trojans Advance To The Semifinals With A 43-27 Victory Over Scarborough

The Thornton Academy Girls Basketball team clinched a spot in the Western Maine semifinals for the first time in 30 years yesterday, as they battled to earn the win against a feisty Scarborough team.  Playing a team three times in a season is always a difficult challenge and after being down 11-2 after the first quarter, Scarborough showed its fight as they raced back to take the lead at halftime, 18-17.  With a little more than 3 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter, TA's defense stepped up and closed the game on a 21-2 run.

This was another great team effort.  Ashley Howe led TA in scoring (11 points - all in the second half), but Victoria Lux, Katie McCrum, Abby Strickland and Alex Hart all made tremendous contributions to the win.  Solid play off the bench gave the Trojans a big advantage down the stretch as Scarborough could not keep up with TA's depth.
