Trojans Advance To The Western Maine Final

The TA Girls came away with a 42-32 win against the Gorham Rams last night in the Western Maine Semifinals.  Thornton Academy led from start to finish, as they raced out to a 9-0 lead and then fought off multiple attempts by Gorham to take the lead.  It was another true team effort as many players gave key performances throughout the night.  Victoria Lux led the charge with 17 points and Katie McCrum added 11.  After learning some hard lessons after their previous meeting, the Trojans felt very confident coming into this game, as they executed their defensive gameplan to near perfection.  Ashley Howe sacrificed her offensive game to focus on keeping Gorham's Emily Esposito in check, holding her to 14 points.  Gorham's other top-scoring threat, Abby Hamilton, was held to a 7 points, with 2 of those being from a jumpshot at the buzzer.  Katie McCrum frustrated her for most of the night, with the help of some outstanding team defense.

Thornton Academy now advances to the Western Maine Final for the first time since 1985.
